Jonathan Lee’s Entertainment Recap: June 22-26

The “King of Pop,” Michael Jackson, died on Thursday, following an apparent cardiac arrest at his home in Holmby Hills.  This was a sad day in the music world as Jackson was preparing to make his comeback, to revive his once idolized name from all the financial and sexual scandals.  His 1982 album “Thriller” sold over 100 million copies—the highest-selling album of all time.  Michael Jackson, who was born August 29th, 1958, died at the age of 50.

One of the biggest recent box office hits came out this week. The long anticipated release of “Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen” on Wednesday, opened with $60.6 million.  It is supposed to be one of the largest box office movies this summer.

Another movie that topped the Box Office returns was the romantic comedy “The Proposal” starring Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock.  The movie reached $34.1 million last weekend reaching the No.1 spot in the box office.  This was the best opening for Bullock who almost doubled her last best box office hit.

Chris Brown entered court this Monday for the preliminary hearings of his assault case on singer Rihanna.  Brown pleaded guilty to the felony charges, which kept him out of jail, but will face probation for the next five years.  Brown must also stay at least 50 yards from Rihanna.

The long anticipated wait for the TLC hit show “Jon & Kate Plus 8” ended Monday when the couple announced the big decision.  They have decided to end their 10-year marriage after they felt their marital problems could not be fixed.  The producers are still planning to keep the show on air, but the way it will be filmed has not yet been decided.

A boy survived a night in the wilderness, thanks to Discovery T.V. show “Man vs. Wild.”  9-year old Grayson Wynn was left behind from a family camping trip, where he had to fend for himself for a night.  Wynn used techniques from the T.V. show, leaving trails and making campsites before he was found Sunday.

Actress Daryl Hannah and Scientist James Hansen were arrested Tuesday, while protesting mountain top removal mining in West Virginia.  They were released shortly thereafter.

The daughter of actor Billy Bob Thornton, Amanda Brumfield, was indicted Wednesday on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter of a child.  She was arrested last October.

Top celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton filed a civil suit Wednesday, accusing Polo Molino, manager of the Black Eyed Peas of hitting him at a Toronto Nightclub.  Hilton’s real name is Mario Lavandeira.  He is seeking up to $25,000 in damages.

Padron Thomas, the driver in the Ohio gang shootings which involved member’s of T.I.’s entourage was sentenced to 17 years in prison.  T.I. is serving one year and a day in jail right now for gun possession charges.
