Jonathan Lee’s Entertainment Recap for Week of Aug 3rd
This week was full of surprises, filled with joy and sadness. The top story of the week was the return of the two American citizens who were sentenced to 12 years in a North Korean Labor camp. Laura Ling and Euna Lee were set free and returned with former President Bill Clinton back to the United States. The aircraft however did not belong to the U.S government, rather owned by Hollywood producer Stephen Bing.
Starting with the legal woes, rapper Corey Miller, also known as C-Murder began his second murder trial Monday. Miller faces life in prison, if convicted of killing 16-year-old Steve Thomas.
Leonard Cohen, who is set to perform in Israel for Palestinian and Israeli peace groups, will perform September 24th. The highly anticipated concert sold out within a day.
After stalled negotiations with American Idol judge Paula Abdul, one judge that will be back for the ninth season with the show is Grammy nominated songwriter Kara DioGuardi. Season is to resume in January.
After returning with two new episodes Monday, the TLC hit show “Jon and Kate plus 8” depicted a rather different story, as the couple is now separated after announcing their divorce to 10.6 million viewers.

After filing a $70 million lawsuit against CBS corp. and Viacom Inc., Dan Rather has filed a new one on top of that against his former CBS executives. Rather was fired after controversy over President George W. Bush’s Vietnam-era military service.
Paramount has decided not to show the highly anticipated summer move “G.I. Joe Rise of the Cobra” to critics, only opening it up to a select bloggers and internet sites for private screening. The movie premiered Friday for all audiences.
Police Chief Chad Dojack has been on paid leave after accusation that him and one other chief were snooping on a celebrity surrogate mother. They are accused of trying to steal items from the surrogate mother’s home to sell to paparazzi. Both pleaded not guilty last Friday.
Chris Brown was back in court on Wednesday for his hearing, only for the judge to delay the sentencing. Brown who was in court for assault charges on former singer Rihanna, will have to wait till August 27th.
Actor Tom Sizemore was arrested Wednesday night in Los Angeles for domestic violence. Sizemore was released on $20,000 bail. Stay tuned next week for more entertainment law news.
